-ALUMNI NEWS-

Thanks to dozens of generous donors, include many JHS Alumni, work has begun on replacing Jefferson Center’s leaky roof. Between late July and the end of September, donations to our special roof fund matched two challenge grants from the City of Roanoke and the Horace G. Fralin Charitable Trust. Thanks to contributions during that period, we raised more than is needed for the roof replacement and will designate those funds for other capital improvements, including repair of the Steps leading to the Campbell Avenue entrance.

JHS alumni contributed 67 of the 102 gifts Jefferson Center received for the Roof Fund. Included among the special roof campaign gifts was $7,715 from those who identified themselves as Jefferson Alumni including $2,000 in proceeds from alumni events held at Jefferson Center, Alumni Day and the Valentine Dance. We are grateful for your loyal support of Jefferson Center.

-ALUMNI MEMORABILIA ROOM-

Jefferson Center, occupies an historic, landmark with a rich heritage as former Jefferson Senior High School. The school was built in 1923. It operated as Roanoke's main secondary school until 1974, graduating more than 19,000 students.

We are privileged to honor the special relationship of alumni to their school by hosting class reunions and annual activities of the Alumni Council. Also, The Memorabilia Room is maintained as a museum and archive of materials about Jefferson Senior High School. It contains old yearbooks, student newspapers and photos, sports trophies and a wall of photos citing Jefferson students who achieved extraordinary community and national leadership positions. The Memorabilia Room is open for visitors who research history about the school and its alumni and for general enjoyment.

To maintain security and care of the valued items, Jefferson Center's staff opens the room only when visitors are expected. To arrange a visit, contact John Levin at 540-343-2624, exts. 212. Information about scheduled alumni activities is posted on this page. To add items, please contact John Levin at jlevin[at]jeffcenter[dot]org

-JEFFERSON HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI COUNCIL PURPOSE-

The purpose of the Jefferson High School Alumni Association is to function as a focal point for information about alumni and alumni activities.

The Jefferson Alumni Council is composed of volunteer graduates who meet monthly at Jefferson Center to plan alumni events.  The meetings are generally held on a week day at 5:30p.m. at the Jefferson Center.

The principal service offered by the volunteers is the planning and coordinating of all activities related to the annual All Class Reunion which is held each year on the third Saturday in August in Jefferson Center’s Fitzpatrick Hall.

A current objective of the Association is to establish primary contacts through class agents in order to support communications about individual class reunions as well as between individual alumni.

Any graduate who would like more information about the Council or its meetings can contact John Levin, Director of Development at Jefferson Center by phone at 540-343-2624, ext. 212, or by email at jlevin[at]jeffcenter[dot]org.
